Welcome to Music Therapy!
Melissa Hentges, Music Therapy

Hi!  I am Melissa Hentges, MT-BC and I have been a board certified music therapist since 2011. Originally from South Dakota, I moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota and received my Bachelors of Music Therapy degree in 2010. I have worked in hospital settings and in early childhood education providing music therapy services to children and adults. I joined the Minneapolis Public Schools music therapy team in 2015. When I am not at school, I enjoy baking, playing accordion in a bluegrass band, and spending time with my husband, two kids, and our energetic border collie!

This year at Cityview, all ASD and High 5 students will receive one hour of music therapy each day!

During music therapy, your child will be involved in singing, listening, moving, playing, and other creative music activities to help them become better learners. We will be working on IEP goals, social skills (turn taking, self-expression, communication, etc.), academic skills tied to classroom learning targets, motor skills, and of course, music skills! I look forward to helping your child learn and grow through music!
